Instructions to Guide You in Bible Study

1. Begin your study by having prayer. You need to understand what the Bible teaches. God has promised to help you, and God keeps his promises. As you pray, you can thank God that He will help you understand. Pray with faith. Put John 16:13 to the test!

2. First, read all the entire Bible (Genesis right through Revelation). It is recommended that you read the Bible version that you use most often for personal study.

3. Next, write down all of the Books of the Bible in their proper order (beginning with Genesis, Exodus, and so forth). Check your spelling!

4. Now set out to memorize the sixty-six in the proper order. For most people, this is not as easy as it may seem. One method that professional speakers use when memorizing for public events is to practice before a mirror. It may seem a bit awkward at first, but it works! Of course, bear in mind that the person you will be looking at knows what you know!

5. Next, you should discover the following about each Book of the Bible: The Human author, to whom it was written to or for, and the general reason for it being written. For example: I Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to the church members in the city of Corinth addressing certain controversies that had arisen. Make a list of the Books of the Bible placing the information next to each of the Books. You will probably find this information within the study helps of any good study Bible (the Thompson Chain Reference Bible is a very good choice). You may also wish to use an online study resource. We highly recommend StudyLight.org.

6. Meditate! Continue to think about what the Bible teaches. Memorizing some of the key verses will produce valuable results.

7. Never give up. With God's help you can be a faithful and effective Christian witness and worker.
